‘Dream Laboratory’
is collaboration project between Photofuss – the Finnish Museum of Photography's in-house collective of young artists and Hotel St.George.
Sunset Ritual ‘Sunset Ritual’ is an artwork commissioned by Nari Tea for a tea cake cover project. In 2022 the tea house released a Limited edition collection of art covered tea cakes.
Sunset Ritual is a rare shu/riped puér (2016) made from Anciet Tree tea leafs.
Sweet like color pink, earthy like trees and their roots, wise like old dragon peeking thru a time portal to see the future, in the scent hints of slowly dancing flowers.
This piece comes from the feelings of what the tea gives me and the name just resonated with everything that the tea represents. Sunset Ritual is the name of the artwork on the cake. Not yet night but not a daytime anymore – a perfect slot just in-between the two moments. I imagine that all things living have their own unique evening rituals. Flowers, dragons, humans, trees and the sun. Some get ready to sleep – some are about to wake up. This tea leaves many layers of sensations like clouds in my mouth and hint of unknown magic.
When creating an art piece I just feel it out and intuitively follow the idea. Sometimes the idea shape-shifts in the process and leads me to unexpected places. I never cling to an idea because clinging just sets me up for failing. So it is a mix between being open for what ever and the original thought or a feeling from inside. Sometimes certain situations, memories and specially tea can trigger a color spectacle behind my closed eyes. All the colors on the cover art is a part of the spectacle that the tea gave me.
I focused the idea of what time of the day I would love to drink this puer. Asking questions such as what does it look like at that time of the day and getting an answer of an evening sunset.
